Farmers’ Markets – A Fresh Idea

Farmers Market Blog Header (2)

Can you feel it? There’s an eagerness amongst locals to get outside and greet summer! It’s the season for heirloom tomatoes, juicy peaches, and spending time outdoors. At Sierra Sotheby’s International Realty, we understand community is more than buying and selling houses. It’s about bringing people together. That’s why we present our annual Farmers’ Market guide; to encourage you to get out into your community. We hope you enjoy exploring new Farmers’ Markets, savoring locally sourced foods, and squeezing every drop out of summer.

ARE YOU HUNGRY?

Farmers’ Markets are the figurative “breadbasket” of our communities. It’s where friends and neighbors meet, and committed gastronauts seek out the perfect ingredients. Farmers, ranchers, artisans, and bakers are at the heart of every market, offering the finest seasonal products.

Whether you’re a lifelong resident or relocating to Lake Tahoe/Reno, our local Farmers’ Markets are a simple way to get face-to-face with where your food comes from. Here, there’s always a healthy vibe. The air is bursting with the sweetness of earth-ripened produce, delectable pastries, eggs, dairy, and meats. Skilled artisans exhibit unique craft items that make perfect gifts or newfound treasures. It’s where folks embrace fresh juice stains on their clothing while others swing to the rhythm of a local band. Not just for purchasing produce: at specific locations, be prepared to throw a blanket on the grass, order up some food truck delights, and relax into a summer evening.

A DELICIOUS IDEA

Farm boxes, also called Community Supported Agriculture (CSAs), are an excellent way to benefit local farmers. Your subscription or “share” in the harvest ensures your kitchen is well stocked with peak-season, nutrient-dense food. But most importantly, when you subscribe to a CSA, you help guarantee ethical farming practices and sustained income for farm partners. In fact, according to Farmers’ Market Coalition, “Growers selling locally create 13 full-time jobs per $1 million in revenue earned.” Farmers’ markets deliver value for consumers, local economies, and our environment. Sign-up for your CSA online or at your local farmers market.
